š®š¹ āI Thought I Needed Italian⦠Until I Discovered Spanish Was Enoughā
Before traveling to Italy, I was honestly nervous.
Not because of the flights. Not because of traveling alone. But because I had heard Italians didnāt really love speaking Englishā¦
⨠And I thought:āOh my God⦠how am I going to survive this trip?ā
I was genuinely worried I wasnāt going to understand anything.
But if Iām being completely honestā¦
My biggest concern was much more important than that. š
š I was terrified I wasnāt going to be able to properly order all the food I had dreamed about eating in Italy.
Pizza.Gelato.Cannoli.Pasta.Aperol Spritz.
Because trulyā¦that trip was about experiencing Italy with my whole heart.
And definitely with my whole stomach too.
š· Italy was never just a destination to me.
It was a feeling.
I wanted to sit in little cafƩs for hours.Walk through tiny streets.Get lost.Listen to Italian conversations around me.Eat slowly.Enjoy museums.Admire churches. And experience what Italians call:
⨠āLa dolce far niente.ā
The sweetness of doing nothing.
And somehowā¦Italy teaches you that beautifully.
š The moment I arrived, something unexpected happened:
Italians understood my Spanish.
Not perfectly. Not word for word. But enough.
Enough to laugh.Enough to ask questions.Enough to move confidently.Enough to connect.
š¤ And suddenly I realized something powerful:
Spanish was also a language of love.
Our languages were so similar that conversations flowed naturally.
They spoke Italian.I spoke Spanish. And somehow⦠we still understood each other beautifully.
šļø That experience completely changed the way I saw language.
Because language isnāt always about speaking perfectly.
Sometimes itās simply about being willing to try.
To smile. To ask. To connect.
⨠From walking through Rome surrounded by breathtaking churches and centuries of historyā¦
To experiencing the Vatican in personā¦
To later riding a gondola through the unbelievably romantic canals of Veniceā¦
Italy became one of the most emotional and unforgettable experiences of my life.
And honestly?
What stayed with me the most wasnāt just the beauty.
It was the feeling of freedom.
The realization that the world suddenly felt smaller⦠softer⦠more accessible.
š Human beings truly want to understand each other.
And when you stop being so afraid of sounding imperfect, beautiful things start happening.
That trip reminded me that speaking another language doesnāt only open professional doors.
š¤ It opens emotional ones too.
It gives you confidence.Freedom.Curiosity.
And sometimesā¦it gives you memories that stay with you forever.
š®š¹ Venice taught me that connection matters more than perfect vocabulary.
